Health and Safety and Fire Protection

South central

South Central is located in central London, the mixed-use development features both high residential blocks, smaller two to four storey Victorian residential and commercial properties. Building 2 is an 11 storey block of residential apartments on all floors with the maximum height of the building approx. 35m above ground level. The original cladding comprised a combination of painted insulated render cladding at high levels and brick cavity wall construction at ground level, the insulated render system was assessed as non-compliant with current fire performance legislation and needed to be replaced.

The zone

The Zone consists of five separate residential apartment blocks in the centre of Bristol, constructed using both traditional methods of a concrete structure and a timber frame structure. All the buildings in the development were deemed as high risk due to the external facades, which consisted of an insulated render system, brickwork, timber cladding, timber balconies, copper cladding and spandrel panels which needed replacing without impacting the original aesthetic of the design.
